Come, Join Us at Davenport University on Saturday, October 7, 2017
Help us celebrate the 14th Anniversary of NAMIWalks as thousands join in to proudly raise awareness and show active public display of support for people with mental health challenges that we are changing how Americans view mental illness.
This is the 2nd year Emerging HOPE has walked in memory of our sister Kimberly, who we lost to suicide January 21, 2015. Kimberly was a warm and loving woman who enjoyed laughing and smiling. She especially enjoyed singing and would share her voice with family and friends alike. Kimberly was an exceptional artist and loved to sketch in her spare time. She was active and would often walk to relax or to travel where she needed. In her spare time she loved to complete crossword puzzles and read to pass the time. Kimberly was also a God fearing woman and enjoyed going to church and being active in her home church at New Hope Baptist in Grand Rapids, MI. Within her heart, however, was the simple love of being with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Kimberly loved to watch classic television shows and movies. She was warm, generous and loving and would help anyone that needed her assistance.
The walk raises awareness about mental illness and funds that allow NAMI Michigan to provide education, support and advocacy at no cost to persons living with mental illness. More than 60 million Americans live with mental illness each year. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among our young people. UNTREATED mental illness is a national crisis. But with early diagnoses and treatment RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE. Join our team. Make a small donation. Come walk with us. Invite your family, friend’s co-workers and places of worship to join us.
